Plein Air Boot Camp - Winslow Art Center

Want to get outdoors to paint in the open air but don’t know where to start? This class is for you! Learn about the challenges facing outdoor painters, and how to prepare for them. We’ll talk about logistics – what to bring, how to stay warm and dry, ways to prioritize safety, and how to work with the wind and changing light! We’ll look at a variety of plein air painting systems (French easels, pochade boxes on tripods, DIY cigar boxes, sketchbox easels) and discuss the pros and cons of each. We’ll even try out a landscape-friendly palette that requires few colors but yields a big impact. We’ll wrap up with a Cinco de Mayo celebration.
